Desktop Gull

Desktop Gull adds an animated desktop companion based on the Istanbul seagull from Simitkapan. It walks along the Dock and on top of windows, flies between them, and rides along when you move a window it is standing on. It also flies off screen and returns with postcards from Istanbul.

The gull drops simit crumbs and occasionally grabs your cursor for up to 1.5 seconds, but never while you hold a mouse button. Clicking it makes it squawk and flee; throwing it a simit from the menu bar calms it down.

An optional Cheeky mode lets the gull drag other apps’ windows a little by their title bars. This mode is off by default and requires Accessibility permission. It leaves alone the window you are typing in, full-screen windows, call apps, and password managers. A “Put Windows Back” command undoes its window movements.

The app requires no permissions outside Cheeky mode. It reads window positions, but not window contents or titles, and goes online only to check for updates and validate a Costume Pack license if applicable. The gull rests in Low Power Mode, on the lock screen, and in full screen, and does not redraw while standing still.
